How to lower your pesticide intake?

21 Sep

I found this list of fruits and vegetables with the highest levels of pesticides put together by the Environmental Working Group. If you can’t afford to buy organic produce all the time, you can minimize your exposure to pesticides without spending a lot of money. Just avoid conventionally farmed produce from the ‘dirty dozen’ list and instead choose conventional produce from the ‘clean’ list.
The Clean 15:
(lowest in pesticides)

1.Onion

2.Sweet corn (frozen)

3.Avocado

4.Pineapple

5.Cabbage

6.Sweet Peas

7.Asparagus

8.Mango

9.Eggplant

10.Kiwifruit

11.Cantaloupe (Rockmelon)

12.Sweet Potato

13.Grapefruit

14.Watermelon

15.Mushroom

The Dirty Dozen:

(buy these organic)

1.Apple

2.Celery

3.Capsicum (bell pepper)

4.Peach

5.Strawberry

6.Nectarine

7.Grape

8.Spinach

9.Lettuce

10.Cucumber

11.Blueberry

12.Potato

+ green beans

+ kale / collard greens

@Darko- I must admit that I like more things from "dirty dozen list" but sarma is always welcomed  @Anchy- You are welcome

I wonder how potato gets on the dirty list when it's a tuber. :left:I think this is probably not applicable outside the USA anyway as this "environmental Working Group" is based in the USA. Agricultural practices vary dramatically from country to country and it would be next to impossible to create this kind of list and have it be valid globally. 🙄

I am afraid the list would be even "worse" then…

Apples are dirty dozen on every list, damn people destroying one of the best fruits…But around half of these stuff from the dirty dozen list I almost never buy because I have my own so I'm safe then 😀 Originally posted by gdare:

@Aadil- Notice that on the "dirty dozen list" are fruits and vegetables with thin skin.@Gyng- I also knew for apples before, luckily I don't like them so much except in cakes, cookies, ..;)
